Agglomeration is particularly problematic for nanoscale catalysts, such as graphene.  Using Ru as a methanation catalyst, the advantage of physical separation of the graphene layers by incorporation of nano-alumina is demonstrated by higher conversion rate and CH4 yield relative to its absence.
