OB61 Conversion of Cellulose by Carbon and Metal Catalysts

We have shown that carbon CMK-3 and Ru/CMK-3 are highly active and durable catalysts for the depolymerization of cellulose. CMK-3 catalyzes the hydrolysis of cellulose to oligosaccharides which are further hydrolyzed to glucose by Ru. Phenolic groups on carbon are important and the active Ru species is RuO2·2.3H2O.
