This study demonstrates stabilization of solid acid catalysts for aldol condensation, via the addition of hydrogenation pathways. This allowed for the elucidation of the mechanism for the condensation reaction and identification the effects of the confining environment around the acid site and catalyst acid strength on the reactivity and selectivity.
