Bio-oil obtained cannot be directly used as a fuel without upgrading. Upgrading lignin-derived phenolic compounds is one of the biggest challenges in bio-oil upgrading. Supported MoO3 have been shown to be effective for HDO of lignin-derived model compounds. MoO3/nTiO2, MoO3/γAl2O3, and MoO3/nZrO2 are effective, and robust, towards HDO of phenolic compounds.
