Synthesis and Surface Dynamics of a Series of Single Phase Molybdenum-Tungsten Carbide Catalysts

We present a new synthesis route to high surface area mixed transition-metal carbides that uses freeze drying to provide a precursor of known metal stoichiometry. The method is used to synthesize a series of Mo-W carbides and we investigate activation and stability under toluene hydrogenation reaction conditions.
