P-Tu-B-143 Nature of Active and Inactive Oxygen on Au(111) Model Catalyst in Methanol Partial Oxidation

The atomic oxygen layers prepared on gold surface at various temperatures demonstrate drastically different activity in methanol oxidation. Two oxygen states (active and inactive) are detected. The active state is associated with surface atomic oxygen while inactive oxygen is tentatively assigned to subsurface oxygen.
