In this contribution we present a novel method to discriminate between the hydrocarbon species which are contributing to the activity and deactivation of a H-SSZ-13 catalyst during the methanol-to-olefins reaction. This methodology shows how the nature of the active and deactivating species change with the MTO reaction temperature.
