Calorimetric, gravimetric and IR analyses provided experimental values for pentene physisorption and chemisorption enthalpies on ZSM-5. With this information, the intrinsic activation energies for various cracking pathways were determined. Obtained values were unexpectedly high, considering the low apparent Ea. The high olefin cracking rates are attributed to high coverages.
