The promotional effect of H₂ for NO oxidation over Pt/Al₂O₃ was investigated for lean exhaust conditions. The effect at low temperatures is linked to simultaneous enhancement of CO and hydrocarbon oxidation. H₂ could not prevent Pt oxide formation, but could hinder Pt oxide formation, giving a temporary enhanced NO₂ formation.
