This study presents a tandem catalytic cycle of methanol aqueous phase reforming-glycerol hydrodeoxygenation targeted to 1,2-propanediol formation under inert conditions. Over a CuZnAl catalyst, optimized reaction conditions selectively drive the reaction to 1,2-propanediol. Εxploration of the reaction pathways indicated that glycerol hydrodeoxygenation proceeds via a dehydration-hydrogenation mechanism .
