Aqueous phase hydrogenolysis of bio-derived furfuryl alcohol is representing a promising sustainable production route for 1,2-pentanediol and an alternative to the established cost-intensive petrochemical multistep route. Since a safe and green process also demands for a reliable and fast online process monitoring, this work evaluates the use of ATR-IR spectroscopy.
