O-Th-407-17 Effects of Alkali Metal Cations on the Hydrogen Oxidation Reaction in Alkaline Electrolytes

We find the rate of hydrogen oxidation over polycrystalline platinum in alkaline electrolytes is dependent on the cation present in the electrolyte solution. We propose a reaction mechanism involving adsorbed hydroxide, which can be promoted by the presence of adsorbed alkali metal cations, and validate using density functional theory.
