P-Mo-B-39 Carbon Support for Extra-Heavy Crude Oil Upgrading Catalysts: Asphaltene Adsorption Capacity

The capacity for asphaltene adsorption was evaluated for four carbon materials obtained from biomass, lignite and petroleum coke, which are potential supports for upgrading catalysts. The adsorption capacity increased with increasing mesoporosity and did not appear to be influenced by oxygenated surface groups on the carbons.
