Understanding the deactivation mechanisms of Co/Al2O3 catalysts during  the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is important from a fundamental and economic viewpoint. This study shows that C deposition and loss in catalyst surface area play a major role in deactivation of the catalysts. The importance of Co particle size is also highlighted.
