We use in-situ DRIFTS to characterize carbon species on Pt/Al₂O₃ during propane oxidation. We show that pre-adsorbed sulfur inhibits carbon deposition without having a significant effect on propane conversion. We also show the effect of alkane chain length and the nature of the sulfur species on the carbon deposition behavior.
