A surface science approach using conventional aqueous-phase preparation methods and a-alumina substrate is used to mimic industrial catalyst preparation. These results give new insight on the reactivity of model α-Al2O3 wafers toward Mo adsorption and sulfidation which can be related to the speciation of OH surface groups on each orientation.
