Using in-situ extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (EXAFS), nanoparticle Ni supported on HZSM-5 zeolite, silica, and sulfonated carbon were shown to be stable during aqueous phase catalysis at 473 K and 35 bar H2. Ni(0) was found to be stable in 15 wt% acetic acid solution under H2 pressure.
