The liquid-phase dehydrations of 1-phenylethanol and 1-indanol were compared over HBEA, HMOR and HZSM5 zeolites. Maximum styrene yields between 50 and 70% were obtained whereas indene yields higher than 90% were achieved. The results are explained on the basis of acidity, transition state shape selectivity and diffusional restrictions.
