The production of biodiesel by transesterification yields glycerol as a byproduct.  In this study, niobium oxide was synthesized and modified by treatment with H2O2 to generate a bifunctional catalyst. The catalysts were tested for the simultaneous dehydration/oxidation of glycerol to obtain compounds that could be employed as bio-additives for fuels.
