In CO2 reduction, the adsorbed CO with normal frequency is not stable and contributes to CO production. The CO with lower frequency is more stable and is the intermediate to CH4. Formate is formed through bicarbonate and adsorbed CO, and found to be the poison in the formation of CH4.
