Water-gas shift and aqueous phase reforming reaction rates correlate to OH binding energies on PtM bimetallic catalysts, pointing to water dissociation as the primary role of the promoter metal. Structural characterization by x-ray absorption spectroscopy reveals trends in the bimetallic structure related to the oxophillic nature of the promoter metal.
