When developing catalysts for HDO of bio-oil both catalyst activity and stability must be considered. The current work shows that when using Mo2C as catalyst for bio-oil HDO, it will deactivate due to oxidation by water, formed either by the HDO reaction itself or present in the bio-oil feed.
