The ideal characteristics of a support for the immobilization of the Hoveyda-Grubbs 2nd generation catalyst in the ROMP of cyclooctene were defined. The optimal support-catalyst system was used to unravel the reaction pathway of the ring-opening ring-closing metathesis of cyclooctene to cyclic oligomers.
