Investigation of Diffusion Characteristics of Solid Amine Powders and Pellets Using Benzene as a Probe Molecule

In-situ infrared analysis of benzene adsorption onto a solid amine sorbent and pellets revealed diffusion limitations of pellets, resulting from pore plugging by the binder.  Diffusion limitations corresponded to low CO₂ capacity of the pellets.  Understanding mass transfer properties of solid amine sorbents and pellets enables development of industry scale technology.
