The emission of gases like NO, SO2 and CO2 to the atmosphere from power plants, ships and other industrial sources is of increasing concern worldwide. Ionic liquids with high and selective absorption capacities of these gases will be adressed and the possible mechanisms of reversible absorption/desorption is highlighted.
