Conversion of algal alkanes to both diesel and HEFA jet compositions is readily accomplished under typical bifunctional hydroisomerization/hydrocracking conditions using a 0.5% Pt/US-Y zeolite catalyst. The most economical strategy for using any triglyceride for making distillate fuels should focus on producing an adequately isomerized diesel fuel.
