Novel catalysts, Cu-ZnO supported on mesoporous carbon were synthesized and used for methanol synthesis from CO2 and H2. Our results suggest that the carbon matrix acts as not only a support, but also a reducing agent that reduces CuO to Cu0. The material has shown promising potentials for methanol synthesis.
