Nanoceria has potential medical applications. An understanding of its fate and effects that predict human outcomes is necessary for therapeutic and safety assessment. Systemic nanoceria administration to the rat, results in its sequestration in the mononuclear phagocyte system, prolonged persistence, and multi-phasic pro- and anti-oxidant effects associated with its biotransformation.
