A new method of upgrading crude glycerol stream is presented for the first time. Methanol, remained unreacted after transesterification, is steam reformed and H2 formed is consumed in glycerol hydrogenolysis to propylene glycol. This novel one-pot reaction sequence is performed efficiently over Pt and Cu catalysts.
