A large influence of support and solvent on activity, selectivity and stability in levulinic acid(LA) hydrogenation was found for supported Ru catalysts. LA can be directly converted to pentanoic acid over zeolite-supported Ru catalysts in a one-pot hydrogenation reaction. Extensive characterization showed that support dealumination is mainly responsible catalyst deactivation.
