Conversion of Acetol to Lactic Acid over Heterogeneous Catalytic Systems

Lactic acid has been used to produce PLA, a biodegradable, compostable and biocompatible polymer. This contribution shows that it can be selectively produced from acetol oxidation using solid base catalysts without addition of alkaline solution and using alternative biomass-derived compound as renewable feedstock, providing thus a green sustainable process.
