Hierarchically structured Y and Beta zeolite (Y or Beta//MCM-41 or MCM-48) were synthesized via the surfactant-mediated coating of zeolite crystals with mesoporous materials route. These materials exhibit superior properties compared to those of conventional ordered silica and zeolites. They were quite active in the hydrogenation of bulky polynuclear aromatics.
