CrCl3.6H2O can be used as a novel efficient reagent for epoxide ring opening to halohydrin. An extra nucleophile can also be employed in the presence of Cr(NO3)3.9H2O. This simple and efficient method provided highly regioselective reaction with excellent yields under mild and rapid reaction conditions.
