This study has found evidence of reversible interactions between glycerol and γ-alumina using ATR and transmission IR spectroscopy. There was also evidence of further differences in the chemical environment of glycerol when in water. The results are an important step toward understanding the surface chemistry of heterogeneously catalyzed biomass conversion.
