Conversion of lignocellulose into isosorbide (yields up tot 70 %) in extremely concentrated solution with minimal hydrogen consumption. Isosorbide is a platform molecule and can be used either as a building block in the bulk chemical industry or starting material for dimethyl-isosorbide (a blending compound in diesel fuel).
