The aqueous phase reforming of four lignin samples, including kraft, organosolv, sugarcane bagasse, and soda lignin, was conducted to produce hydrogen and monomeric aromatic compounds at low temperatures and pressures.  Isolated products, the identity of which depended on the lignin source, consisted primarily of guaiacol or syringol.
