Our studies have centered on obtaining detailed mechanistic information on the pathways for the dehydration of fructose to HMF with a PO43-/niobic acid catalyst. Results obtained over different catalysts, such as Amberlyst 70 and H2SO4, also provide insight into critical steps in the reaction mechanism, and will be discussed.
