Aqueous phase conversion of biomass-derived oxygenates poses new challenges regarding the stability and surface reactivity of catalysts in water. The present contribution provides a detailed time-resolved picture of structural transformations of γ-alumina supports and their interactions with glycerol in an aqueous environment.
