(Mg,Fe)2SiO4-catalysts intended for use in indirect gasification of biomass are investigated using  photoelectron spectroscopy and electron microscopy. The surface concentration of Fe and Mg as well as the morphology are shown to change in oxidizing and reducing conditions, which is suggested to be due to surface segregation of these materials.
