Cellulose can be hydrolyzed to glucose and subsequently to sugar-alcohols by Ni catalysts supported on alumina. The reduction of Ni without calcination can be achieved at much lower temperature compared with the Ni after calcination. Furthermore show a high catalytic activity for cellulose hydrolysis due to small Ni particle and high metal dispersion
