A Cu/ZnO nano-catalyst, hosted in the mesocages of (Im3m) SBA-16 silica, shows an enhanced catalytic stability as compared to a benchmark Cu/ZnO(Al2O3) catalyst. Thus, cage nano-confinement and NO-moderated activation of ex-nitrate catalysts may open a new route to prepare sintering-resistant methanol synthesis catalysts.
