The reforming reaction of D-(+)-Glucose on Pt(111) has been characterized under UHV using TPD and HREELS. For submonolayer coverages, glucose reacted to exclusively form hydrogen, water, CO, CO2 and methanol. Complex desorption peak temperatures suggest various surface intermediates involved in the reforming reaction as well as sterically limited adsorbates.
