This study provides an insight into the interactions between Co and ZnO that influence both the morphology and oxidation state of supported Co particles, which will be used to provide a complete mechanism of the SRE on Co/ZnO catalysts. The active sites for decarbonylation and dehydration of adsorbed ethoxide are identified.
