MFI Zeolite catalysts are synthesized with small crystalline domains for fast catalytic applications, resulting in rate limitations at crystalline surfaces.  Defects in MFI surfaces are probed using a new method of asymmetric frequency response, with complete kinetic characterization of the surface of silicalite-1 indicating substantial rate-limiting surface structures.
