Catalysts of singly dispersed bimetallic sites M1An were synthesized. Isolated M1An sites exhibit much higher activity and selectivity than a M-A alloy nanoparticle catalyst consisting of continuous bimetallic sites. This distinct difference demonstrates that isolation of bimetallic sites of a metal nanoparticle could significantly improve catalytic performance of bimetallic catalysts.
