The preparation and stability of novel encapsulated, ultra-small nickel nanoparticles as H2 generation catalysts was studied. The catalyst shows very high activity-selectivity and orders of magnitude higher resistance to deactivation than previous ones, allowing some protection from carbon formation, possibly by inhibiting carbon from preferentially forming on the active metal.
