A silica supported three coordinate, single-site Fe2+ is prepared by grafting Fe[N(SiMe3)2]2 onto silica followed by H2 treatment at 250oC. The resulting surface Fe2+ not only exhibited room temperature (30oC) propene hydrogenation activity, but also can hydrogenate toluene under 150 psi H2 at 100oC.
