This work provides the starting basis for developing new catalyst technology because the global supply of H2SO4 is projected to be 258 MM tonnes in 2015 costing about $10 MMM  and the maximum SO2 conversion possible is ca. 99.7% which is not adequate to meet EPA regulations for SO2 emissions.
