Oscillatory CO oxidation over supported Pt/Al2O3 was studied using operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy and IR-thermography. By correlating the dynamics on the macroscopic (temperature) and microscopic level (Pt oxidation state) of the catalyst in a packed bed microreactor conclusive structure-activity correlations and a fundamental knowledge on the mechanism were obtained.
