A highly selective and efficient base free one-step reaction pathway for producing lactic acid from glycerol over Pt/Sn-MFI was developed. The catalytic system provides a new cascade reaction pathway to combine metal and Lewis acid catalysts, which can overcome the thermodynamic and kinetics barrier involved in biomass conversion.
